The Robert Martin House, circa 1834 -1835, was the home of Robert (1790 - 1852), "an upright gentleman and sagacious merchant" in the wagon-yard business, his wife Serena and their six children for 42 years. The Greek Revival structure had several notable features, including three porches across the front, unusual for Charleston, and a grand circular marble stairway.
