W. Andrew Gowder, Jr.

Andy focuses his practice on land use, state and local government, business litigation, business entity formation and governance. Andy began with the firm as a summer law clerk in 1984 and joined the firm in 1986. He is AV rated, the highest rating offered by Martindale-Hubbell (R), a professional legal organization. Andy is active in the community, serving as immediate past chair of Crisis Ministries, as chairman of Lowcountry Local First, and as founder and chair of Raptor Youth Rowing Club. Nationally, Andy is a Full Member of the Urban Land Institute and a member of its Sustainable Development Council and is an officer in the American Bar Association State and Local Government Section. Andy writes and lectures frequently on topics around the areas of land use, local government and urbanism. He has recently co-authored A Legal Guide to Urban and Sustainable Development with Dan Slone and Doris Goldstein (John Wiley and Sons, Inc., 2008) and was a contributor to At the Cutting Edge 2009, Land Use Law from the Urban Lawyer (American Bar Association, 2009). Andy was born and raised in Charleston, S.C. He, his wife, Melinda, and son, Grey, live in the I'On community in Mount Pleasant.
