Recovery for a Lifelong Burn Injury

When a two year old girl climbed into the bathroom sink of her parents' military housing, all she was doing was imitating her older brother. She could not have known that the water would come out of the faucet at a scalding 155 degrees Fahrenheit. After months of intensive burn care, her feet became functional again. Fortunately, her resilient spirit dwarfs the large scars and other physical complications that will be with her forever.

Pratt-Thomas Walker represented the burned child and her parents in a claim against the United States government. After the trial the United States District Court found that the government was negligent and entered a judgment against it for $1,200,000. These funds were placed in a trust for the benefit of the child, to provide for future opportunities that she might not otherwise have.
